So I have a 83' levin coupe and it has been sitting out for 13 years without being started...so I got it to a shop and changed the fuel pump that has gone bad...changed out the gas and she started right up on the first try...after a couple of weeks it started to sputter and die out. now it will crank ok but will not start, not getting power to the fuel pump...checked my OCR and is working, changed ECU, checked the other fuel pump that was put in and it works...could it be the bracket that holds the fuel pump?...does anyone know how to check the diagnostic pigtails on these old cars...any help would be great...maybe it is just something stupid I am overlooking...

In the back of the car, on the floor beside where the spare tire sits, there
are some connectors. Two or sometimes three. The plug with two thicker
wires is for the fuel pump. Jumper (bridge, short) the two-pin yellow fuel
pump test plug under the hood, then turn the key on. Check for 12V to
ground off one of the pins on the FP power supply plug at the rear.

The ground wire on the pump connects to the pump bracket inside the
tank. There is a ground wire from the outside top of the bracket to a
ground point somewhere under the plastic trim at the centre back of the
luggage compartment.

The three-pin plug beside the FP plug is for the fuel level indicator and
the low fuel warning light. And there is another plug on my car that so far
I have not been able to identify. It does not have anything to do with the
fuel tank.

The other plug is for the illumination of the license plate, indeed not linked to the fuelpump Smile

While the fuel pump is grounded to the tank by the fixing screws, the
tank is not necessarily grounded to the chassis. The tank has rubber pads
and a rubber lining on the holding straps. Therefore the ground wire from
the FP plug should have a good connection. Test the body side connector
and make sure the ground wire from the plug shows zero resistance to
the chassis.

Then, if you are sure the FP is running when it has 12V, check to see how
much fuel is reaching the rail. Did you change the fuel filter ? There is
probably a lot of rust in the tank, and it could be blocking either the filter
on the pump inlet, or the filter in the engine bay.

If you have an AFM, check the FP runs when you manually open the flap
with the key turned on.

No fuel going to rail or filter changed filter still same got 158 resistance at the pump so thinking it might be the bracket that holds the pump any ideas bout that

One of the wires that goes to fuel level indicator is a ground. If you are
testing the pump side of the FP plug, you have to disconnect the fuel level
indicator plug.

I'd be very surprised if any electric pump in any tank in any car, didn't have its own separate/dedicated ground right along side its power wire.

I might add that the rivets holding that wire in place get loose with age and corrosion...
