3uz would be a waste and has a lot more electronics to deal with. The stock "old", as you call it, 1uz was the basis for Toyota's Indy purposes and has a nice aftermarket following. The f20 with trans weighs as much as the 1uz with a w series and lacks torque. Ask Will Parsons why he turbo'd his f20... The 1uz is reliable and even at 230whp, it's double the stock power the car came with. Also it makes on average 250-265 torque depending on what year 1uz it is. I spent almost a year researching different swaps before deciding on mine. I'm a V8 guy, plain and simple. And there are plenty of guys making 400+ whp na out of these with itbs and a standalone. And countless boosted cars making well over 600! An F20 is harder to find parts for and the transmissions are expensive(at least here in the U.S.). I'd say go 1uz, but that's my biased opinion.

My screen name on 86garage is McKenney as well btw.

and the older 1uz's had much beefier connecting rods than the later model. And all 1989-1995 motors were lower compression(9.25:1 iirc) and non interference motors. Later model VVT 1uz/2uz/and 3uz's were all interference engines with higher compression(10.25+:1 iirc).

Well the 3UZ has the same amount of electronics as the 1UZ VVTi. And the reason it has those is because it have a lot more technology and consequently HP, like COP and VVTi etc. All the UZ series motors have a following and endless aftermarket parts, and the F20 has a LOT more. Thats utter rubbish that the F20 weighs the same as the 1UZ. While you are still thinking about your V8 build, I have been there, done that. There is no way ITB's and a standalone ECU will net you 400+WHP. The heads in the early 1UZ are incredibly inefficient and you need substantial cams to get them to breath and head work.

what's your power goal? an SR in decent condition (read not already on its last leg can put 200whp to the ground all day long in stock condition apart from a slight raise in boost, which can be done for a few bucks.
And to get 300whp needs about 2000$ to do it properly and reliable (internals stay the same, just bolt-ons).

My goal is to be able to just drop in the 1uz( or what ever swap I decide to go with) and have at least 200hp and be able to get out to practice drifting I am wanting to go to comps and race in them. I love the sound of a 1uz cuz it has the power and its a V8 in a tiny car.

McK I found you on 86garage and have been reading it all thanks for the help and tips that you have posted there its great!

F20C is out go me cuz I have Horrible luck with anything Honda related.
