4AGE Tuning Help ??
I have a 16V 4AGE. The cam timing is set perfect (TDC, cam sprocket marks aligned). I put a timing light on it with the diagnostic terminals jumpered and set it to 16* BTDC. It is 20* un-jumpered. (Note, I am assuming BTDC are the marks left of 0 on the plastic with timing marks, as opposed to the right)
The car idles great at 800 RPM, without any fluctuation, so I don't think there are any vacuum leaks. The problem is, when I try to go up hills is lacks power. I have to downshift to third. It just seems boggy and lacks power. It was running just like this for months, then something happened and it was running great. But then my timing belt broke, so I replaced it and it is running boggy once again. I don't know what happened last time to get it running good. Maybe some wiring got bumped, maybe the timing belt slipped a tooth and it runs better with the cams not aligned with the marks?? It is throwing a code 11, but I assumed this was because I removed all the AC stuff. Also, when I turn the distributor to the left, the car runs much better. It cruises up hills much easier and has more power. But it is way off where it should be when doing that. I think turning the distributor to the left is just compensation for something else. What could the issue be?? Should I play with the cam timing and not line up the sprockets with the marks? Could it be the throttle position sensor? |

I thought the standard setting for static ignition timing was 10 degrees BTDC (with the terminals jumpered).
Doesn't it knock when going uphill? SFD |

10 degrees btdc jumpered, 16 unjumpered is indeed what you should be aiming for.
