An AI image generator came up with these for me. Make of it what you will, maybe I entered the wrong terms but it seems to have a good understanding of what the 240Z looks like and absolutely no clue what an AE86 looks like.
The first AE86s it returned: Then it gave me these. Once again they look the same as the above cars, despite bearing no resemblance to an AE86. Torii gates look awesome though: These are what it thinks Kaido Racers are supposed to look like: And I can't really fault the S30 it created: |

I know it doesnt look like an 86, but I'd buy one in a heartbeat. It looks like an amalgam of all kinds of 80's cars. Rear windows remind me most of a BMW 6-series sharknose with that Hoffmeister kink in the second picture. The first one has som vw scirocco / lancia beta undertones.

I also tried to generate some images some time ago when stable diffusion was all new. I remember being very very disappointed with the results. I must say it has improved a lot over the past 6 months and that probably has to do with the improved dataset (images) it now has.
I agree with Ivan: the AE86 doesn't look like one at all, but it surely does look pleasing to the eye. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Those are indeed scarily accurate!
I also had a couple of AE86 images generated for my season greetings on my blog and these two were the best ones: I chose the cartoon style for the first one and photo style for the second one. They don't look 100% accurate but they are much closer than what I saw a year ago. I also generated two "3d rendered" images for a "1992 Nissan Skyline" for New Year and those are much scarier: Anyone would recognize them instantly as a Skyline, but if you look closer you will see it actually is a mashup of the R32, R33 and R34. I also tried to generate some for the Carina A60, but those images ended up being a horrible mashup of the Carina II (Corona T150) and the JDM Carina T150. I think it's the volume of photos of a specific subject it has in its library that matters how accurately it can render. Probably there are way more Skylines than AE86es and way AE86es than Carinas. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

With those 2 Christmas 86 images it looks like the AI couldn't figure out if the car had pop-up lights or fixed lights, the cars still look really nice though.
But Nissan really need to put that Skyline mashup into production. I don't care how much it costs, I'd buy one. |

I tried to generate a Mad Max/cyberpunk/AE86 mashup and these were the results. It did do the trueno very well but fumbled on the levins.

The first one looks like it did a good job. Also Eikichi Onizuka appears to be a good Mad Max character.
The second one looks like a first generation Honda Accord with some Levin badges slapped on it. And the last one? I have no idea what it looks like...
