4A-C Engines
How many people here have a 4A-C powered AE86?

I've got a small annoying problem, Im not sure what it is exactly, when im driving and drop it into Neutral, ik usually get a "putt putt" noise. also when i rev the engine, its like Vroooooooooooooooomm putt putt. LOL

Whats causing this? is it the carburator?

Check (replace) all little vacuum hoses :-)

Lets check something - when you drive in traffic and put on gas pedal, then fully depress is - are there some delay of RPM fade ?

Where does the "putt putt" come from? The exhaust or the engine bay? Somewhere else?

Yeah when i rev the engine, it hangs for a maybe a second then goes down, the "put putt" come from the engine but the sound comes out the tail pipe, its not the exhaust, its all new pipes

I heard that this can be some ecological equipment. In order to prevent polutions - in described case. Look at your carburator - check vacuum hoses also, check ignition advance - but keep in mind that this may be normal behaviour in some cases.

Jaimemirror is on the right track.. I've had a couple of AE82's with this engine and I know they have a little vacuum diaphragm called a "dashpot" on the carb.
Pop the hood and remove the air cleaner so you can see the carburettor. Then start the engine and rev it by turning the throttle directly on the carburettor instead of pushing the pedal. When you let the throttle go, watch as the dashpot moves up and "catches" the throttle on its way down.
As said, it is an emission control device that is supposed to make your emissions cleaner.

If i understand correctly...is it normal? its not the engine or carb needing maintenence or needs to be replaced?

Yes, it can be normal. Just check hoses and ignition advance to be sure that everything is ok.
