4AGTE For drifting
Hi Guys,

I was wondering how u think a turbocharged AE86 will drift? I'm considering replacing my S/C with a turbo, but I'm affraid of the turbo will LAG too much for me to be able to drift properly? Have u guys got any experience in this?
I ain't going for a big a$$ turbo, thus keeping the lag to a minimum. My Hp goal is 250 on the wheels.

Hope u can help me out.

Hey Veiss,

Sorry I can't give you any first hand information. Personally I am no turbo fan but as for drifting with a turbo, if you have a good setup you should be able to drift just fine aslong as you keep your engine reving. Most of the people I've met so far that drift, drift turbo cars.

Hope you find the setup you wantSmile Why don't you tune the s/c?

Hey,

Thx, for the fast reply Smile

I don't want to tune the s/c because it isn't possible to get the power I want from the engine. The highest HP I've heard someone getting out of a 4AGZE with stock s/c is 195. And then again u don't have the "Whoooosh" from the Dump valve Wink

You should get a small turbo. One that's just right for 280FWHP. If you got cash you should go for the GT series. GT25R-40. Should flow enough, but with low lag. For drifting you don't need a lot of power to get into the drift if you got stiff suspension. When the rear end is loose you can just step on the gas and you automaticly create boost when the revs go up.

With S/C you get 192hp in enige just for changing the s/c kog 230 hp on the wheels shouldnt be too tough to get with s/c. A bit expensvie maybe but no lag

i use my car mainly for drifting and it only makes slightly more power than standard this means i cant keep up in high 3rd gear and 4th gear corners so more power would definaltly help here but what is great is the throttle response of na engine i could never imagine drifting with a turbo
but everyone around me manages fine so i thick you could just get used to it with practice Thumbs up!
250whp is a massive amount for the 86 chassis! but if you can handle it good luck!
ask a chap called 86 jay on the forum he has an 86 turbo bassed on sc engine and uses it for drifting so i guess he is your man to ask

he is registered here but you can also find him at http://www.driftworks.com

hoe this helps

Don't forget another great drifting car - 200SX. A turbo car...
Veiss, prepare the suspension first - and if you really need 4AGTE - then build one.

well, i had a turbo car, and, it had a 1.6 Dohc turbo engine, so, there was a little turbo, and it was not that big LAG at all...(the turbo started to boost at 2000rpm)
if you will put a little turbo instead of S/C, you'll have a better chance to tune that engine for more power, and, it will be pretty good at higher revs, when boost comes at full!

cheers, adam
