Has anyone ever done it? I've searched the forums here and it seems nobody has. Basically, its a supercharger feeding a turbo. No need to run an intercooler, and no turbo lag. see the following link.

an intercooler would be very advisable as both turbo and supercharger will heat up the air going into the engine.

But since the turbo is fed by the supercharger, the only heat they would get would be from the engine bay. Won't a properly made heat shield and heat wrap eliminate most f that?

the heating is due to the compressing of the air and so unavoidable on a forced induction setup. the only case where no intercooler is used is on very low boost applications but even there an intercooler would bring benefits.

That makes sense, thank you! I'll probably just run a side-mount IC then.

The idea is that you run the supercharger at lower revs, so that at higher revs you can get the benefit of a bigger turbo as you eliminate the lag you would have had by running an SC at lower revs. It is complicated and I have to say, seriously don't bother. Not worth the effort. If you want to run high power figures, just run a turbo. One does not feed the other. When the turbo is up and running the supercharger is in fact disengaged. twincharged setup is totally worth it. Twincharge is not only about power but where this power is available and the point is for the power to be available everywhere. With big turbo you will get same numbers as with twincharging since in both systems turbo generates power at the top but for 4age bigger turbo will spool up at 4k and with twincharging you will hit max boost whenever you step on gas.
It is not that much complicated than turbo system alone. The piping is a bit different and you need bypass valve (not always) and thats it - the rest is same as for simple turbo conversion. Intercooler is a must and also good SA. The rest is the same. |
