I guess you can. I've done that in my 4A-GE's head after changing the valve guides with copper ones and car is running fine until now.

Bill Sherwood recommends to do that in his site.

Best regards

You can cut them if they are made from bronze.
I will not cut even bronze ones - just personal opinion Smile

i wouldnt bother cutting them, if you reshape correctly you will not loose any flow by having them.

Plus cutting them makes them wear slightly unevenly.

Those celica ports are so big that you dont have to worry about the guides being in the way.

Just to resurrect an old but good thread …

I have started to mess around with a spare big port head with the intention of installing it at some point in the future. (Complete with 288 cams and ITBs).

I have been following what’s been explained in this thread and literally removing nothing more than the casting marks and cleaning them up.

Following what BenR has mentioned I have looked at the bowls and started to remove the ridges that are present. In some areas this is going fine, but in others due to how the head has been cast there are low spots. So I was wondering – do I carry on trying to level out these low spots or do I try and raise them some how (JB Weld then grind back).

I am just conscious about removing too much material and have been careful to remove only what I need. Should I worry about the low spots?
