4age bottom end knock :( help please

Hi there I'm new to owning an AE86 and im new on here so I'm not fully clued up on my AE86 yet. Basically it has developed a bottom end knock and I would like to rebuild it but I believe it's not as easy as that :/

I think the con rod bearings are knackered. Questions, where can I get new shells? Can someone help me with measurements and torque settings? And finally what do I need to know about the correlation between the crankshaft and bearings?

Would it be easier to just buy another bottom end?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Might be worth taking the sump off and then the bearing caps to allow inspection of the crank journals.

There is a good chance that the crank journals will be damaged, a regrind is
possible and you will need to strip the engine to get the crank out to do it.

Alternatively yes, you could get another bottom end and it would
be wise to fit new bearings to it anyway.

My usual .5`s, best digested with a tid bit of salt and healthy mindset:

New bearings, headgasket and oil pump all changed and done right is safer than dropping in a block with unknown status quo.
