4age build help
hey guys im new to toyota engines and i would love some help lol . i have a 4age red top i guess and im wanting to build it im not sure if i should go turbo or not but im thinking of putting in cams and pistons in , what do you guys recommend for cams and pistons for a full race application it is not my daily driver

also im still trying to figure out exactly what kind of 4age i have , it has 7 ribs, no vtis plate on the intake mani, i was told from last owner it came out of a mr2.

4age build help
Well it has no tvis plate,7 ribs but an tvis inlet and afm
So it could be a high compression engine(smallport with another inlet)
Or late bigport with the tvis removed somehow

the radiator also has a rad and the clutch fan seems to be gone.
Seems like an aftermarket koyo? radiator

does it have a tvis removal adapter in between the manifold and engine?

What budget do you have?
Do you like turbo's ore more interested in na?
what ecu will you use stock ore another
headwork?

many questions come to mind when building an engine

ill have to take it apart and look for that said tvis adapter , it has a godspeed radiator , i plan on building the car over the years of my ownership so i dont really have a cap on my budget , just curious to see what you guys usually do to build these engines in the most efficient way , my other idea was to swap in a sr20 ? i could sell this set up and get a chunk taken out of the sr20 cost

The fuel line setup on your car has suicidal written all over it.
That engine is most likely a late bigport engine. I think thats about the most common type of 4age about these days, and it fits with it coming from an mr2 (those never got smallport engines).

Looks like its been modified quite a bit.
What ecu does it have, might have been modified already since rest of the car is.
Like said that fuel and battery setup needs looking after, looks dangerous Tongue

Use clamps to keep the fuel lines in place.
Run them either inside or underneath the car. If you do choose to keep it under the car, mount the fuel pump there as well. In any case: a proper mount for the pump would be a very good idea.
Where your fuellines (or any line/cable for that matter) go through the bodywork, use a rubber grommet to secure it so it cant grind against the metal (and a bit pointless in your cars case: keep stinky air out). A bit of aluminum foil just isnt the proper way to secure a fuel line.

The electrics dont look very dangerous to me, I've seen much worse. But usually if the guy who built the car is sloppy in one department, he will have been in many others as well. My only advice here is to tie those electric lines around the driver side footwell together and make sure they cant get cought up with your feet or the pedals (trust me on this one).

Did this car get swapped to a 16v for sales purposes? Seems unlikely a dorifto'd up 86 like this would be rocking a standard 16v engine...
