'87 wiring question
I have an '87 AE86, from which "Junction Block 2," as described in the Toyota factory service manual, was disconnected and, along with its contents, stolen.
This is the rectangular, aproximately 2" x 5" black plastic box mounted at the top of the left front fender inside the engine bay, with 4 (5?) connectors from the wiring loom into the bottom. It includes two relays - the main EFI relay and the headlight relay, as well as a 15A EFI fuse, and other fuses. My question is on finding a replacement - are there other years and/or models that would have this box and its contents? And, are there sources for this part which specialize in these models and have the parts expertise to understand what I need (wrecking yards I have called haven't a clue when I try to describe this - they aren't ae86 specialists). Lastly, if an OEM replacement can't be found, are there any work-around solutions for this missing component? Thanks, Tim |

I think there's a very good chance that you can find this in some other car. My carbed E8 had a relay box with space for an EFI relay as well, even though there obviously wasn't one. It's indicated by the red arrow on the picture:
If it's the same one there's in your car then I'd say get one from a "normal" E8 :-) If not, try looking up the part in the EPC (link can be found elsewhere on this site). After that you can ask the EPC in which cars the part with that part code was used and it should give you a list. |

Thanks, that's good news, that will make it much easier. I think I may have been mislead by a Toyota "specialist" at a wrecking yard that said the box in my car was only used in that model and year. Seemed unlikely, but, now I'm sure he was wrong.

No I think he is right, it was only fitted in that exact configuration in an AE86, BUT you can use either a 4AGE junction box or a 4AC junction box. All you need to do is add in the engine relat which is common to any 80's/90's fuel injected car.
If you pull apart one of these JB's, they are particularly intricate and I wouldn't bother attempting to try and make another fit. Should be easy enough to locate one though. They come up regularly. |
