And the standard battery weighs about 30lbs. Braille Batteries are an excellent option if you are looking for a good replacement, and excellent weight reduction... http://www.nonstoptuning.com/BRAILLE/pBr...eries.html We have used Braille Batteries on our daily driven cars, as well as our competition drift cars over the past couple seasons, with good results. Dusting off an old topic
My current battery is dead due to forgetting to disconnect when storing the car in the winter. Had some issues with starting before storing and my battery was only 300cca and 40AH Current: https://bogijn.nl/onderdelen/artikel/143...u-batterij Mentioned above is 400. And when checking the interwebs based on my type of car they advise the following YUASA YBX3000 SMF Batteries (YBX3005) CCA: 500 and 60AH What harm could it do when using a heavier battery? What are the cons? |

That looks about right. I've just checked the info that I have, and the last battery I bought for an AE82 was 65AH, 580CCA.
You won't do any harm by installing a battery with a higher CCA, but if its not required then you're spending money that isn't necessary. As long as its 12V you'll be OK. One thing I definitely recommend, as its helped me out over the winter before, is that you buy a battery conditioner and connect it to the battery when the car isn't being used much. A conditioner will probably save you money in the long run. One thing to be careful of though, there are two different size battery braces that Toyota used for the 86. So just make sure that the size of battery is correct. Most of the Japanese imports that I've seen have the smaller battery brace. |

Thanks for the info.
I do prefer te same size battery, but seemed that I had plenty room left to fit it. Do need to check if the poles are the right size though for the new one |

I keep my batteries in my basement during wintertime on trickle charge to ensure they don't drop below 10 degrees.
And you are right about the JDM battery: Luckily I was able to restore the battery fully and it's still in use. But I do need to find a replacement clamp at a wrecker soon. But r.ave has an ex-Portugese hachi so I think he should be fine with an ordinary SAE battery. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

OK, last question about the batteries.
What is the max size that would fit? I now have L219*W135*H225 (mm) This size isn't available with 400/500 cca So was wondering what would fit with 400/500cca |

Here's the dimensions of the last battery I bought for the AE82: L*D*H = 232*173*225mm
I'm almost certain that there's no difference in batteries between an 82 and an 86. *Edit* I just checked, the battery for my 82 is the same one listed for the 86. |
