Since the rebuild, everything has been sorted out, and the car now runs perfectly...
Now Im in a deep dilemma, I cant decide which way should I go with my car. (not immediate plans, lets say around the fall of next year) tuned blacktop 20V -> ~180-200hp (with W58 and pajero/hilux/h100 rear end) stock 3sge beams -> ~200-210hp (with 6sp tranny and pajero/hilux/h100 rear end) or go completely mental and put an sr20det in it with ~250hp... To be honest, Im in the favor of the NA engines, BUT I love the turbo ones too...my main concern is the balance of the car. I like to drive it on track days, and IMHO the sr20det would ruin the "trackability" of the car...(not to mention, that I also use the car on the streets if the weather is good)...but my first love is drifting, and for that purpose the turbo power would be the best choice. I could use some advise here guys! AE86 GT - SR20DET BlackTop //// Trackday beater Citroen C4 Coupe VTR - 1.6HDi //// Streetcar |

If it's for drifting and highway => go turbo
If it's for going fast on tracks / grip driving => stay NA I had a 20V and came back to 16V, the effort and work that is needed is done properly (water relocation, dizzy relocation,...) just isn't worth it. The beams 3SGE would be my choice if I would start from zero again. Right now I'm quite satisfied with my 7AGE and humble 175hp. The plus in torque in comparision to the 20V and normal 4AGE is very nice to have! http://monkeymagic86.wordpress.com |

Well, if you ask me, please, for Heaven's shake don't do the tuning of the 20V. It's an endless money sucker and trouble maker and you can not gain much in bhp or torque. Remain with the stock 20V, which is good enough and bulletproof, or if you want real development, do a swap.
To decide between the BEAMS or the SR20DET it's a matter of taste, imho. With the BEAMS you could be the first in Hungary, if it matters something for you. If you want to keep the balance, to go regular track days, and really like to have NA, and want to keep the car a "Toyota", then buy a 3SGE. If torque and drifting is more important, and you want to be competitive against V8 BMW-s in the future, then go the SR86-way. Just my opinion. Good luck. |
