AE86 top mount
For anyone interested it is possible to change the bearing in the standard rubber top mount.
Basically it just presses out from the top nut side. At first I used a 6 ton press and it was not enough pressure but a 20 ton press made it look easy. The bearing pushes through a folded over flange and whilst Toyota will have had some sort of shaped die to originally press the flange it can successfully be gently hammered back into place after a new bearing is pressed in. Only real issue is finding a strong enough tube to put around the outside of the bearing when pressing it out. I used a large socket. The outer 'cup' shaped part is not strong enough to withstand the pressure. Bearing is 42x15x13mm od / id / w Hope the info helps someone. An analogue brain in a digital World |
