Corolla's kicked some serious bootay in their class. anyone know of any specific information about the GroupA rules for the class that the ae86's competed in and does anyone have any specs of the cars? |

AE86 wins
AE86 win. It surprised me that the AE86 actually got off the line as quickly as it did, was also expecting the muscle cars to pass on the straights, maybe the drivers weren't good enough. You can clearly see the poor handling of the muscle cars when one of them rolls over onto its roof. Okay, it's obviously just rolling hotwheels cars down a hill, but they put a lot of effort into the production.
Sorry if this is the wrong thread, please delete if necessary. AE86 race starts at 06:30 |

That ae86 was flying, laughed pretty hard when both muscle cars flipped.

AE86 wins
Bathurst 1000 Touring Car Endurance Race held at Bathurst, Australia:
1985 Class A (<2litre) winner - Toyota Corolla GT 1986 Class A winner - Toyota Corolla GT 1987 Division 3 (<1600cc) winner - AE86 Toyota Corolla 1988 Division 3 winner - Toyota Corolla GT (2nd Toyota Corolla FX-GT, 3rd AE86) 1989 Division 3 winner - FX-GT (nb AE86 Toyota Corolla DNF) 1990 Division 3 winner - AE86 Toyota Corolla 1991 Division 3 winner - AE86 Toyota Corolla 1992 Class B (<1600cc) winner - FX-GT I included wins by other model Corolla's to show just how dominant the Corolla models were here in Australia. In some years the regulations changed and that meant that only Corolla models were in the Class or Division, but that was also a reflection of the weapon they were - no others cars were being consider competitive for the small engine class or division. It was a joy to watch these Corolla's belt around the Bathurst circuit amidst V8's and straight sixes and at the hands of some very competent drivers they sometimes beat these larger engine cars on line honours too. |
