ARGH WHY?!?
ok, yesterday I decided to make a start on my car. First off I stripped out my boot to find this:

This has really upset me. I never knew it existed and am now sitting at home waiting for my neighbour to pop round (has a home business in car repair) to give me an idea on how it would cost to put it right.

So then I thought, since I have to wait while he is sorting out a few cars to get ready for an M.O.T I might aswell try and put the car up on the axle stands to do put on my lateral rod. But trying to find anywhere to put the jack is impossible. The car is too low to the ground Huh So it looks like I may need to get either get new rear springs or dampers or both to make sure i'm not hitting speed bumps like I am currently.

I#ve only been driving the car for a week and its already given me a big headache and could end up emptying my piggy bank for a while due to the cost Crying

Hi Jezza, some thoughts for you.

I have looking at getting some new rear quarter panels from a guy who is getting them remanufactured over in Ireland. He also mentioned that he was going to get these inner wheel arches done, not sure on timescales but its a possibility for you.

As for jacking up your car, you can get low profile hydraulic jacks to fit under lowered cars or a cheaper alternative might be to get some ramps, that will get the car a couple of inches into the air allowing you to jack from there.

Jezza,

I could be dead wrong but to me it looks like someone welded a plate on the outside that you can see through the holes left by rust probably as a way to repair the rust damage. Its not a nice solution but it works, unless if there are issues we can't see on the above picture this will probably get through MOT.

But if you want it nice they should cut out the bad part and weld a new plate in. Also I am not sure what this does to the strenght of your car..

Get us some more pics man so we can see what is going on.

As for jacking your car up, troublesome if it hangs so low. You have a couple of options (besides going to a garage and putting her on a lift).
With a good jack you should be able to jack your car up by putting the jack in the middle of the rear axle and lifting the rear axle off of the ground, then when there is enough room use jack stands to rest the car on.
The other is to get some of those things you can just drive your car onto.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's nice to see this forum is so supportive. I was thinking about buying some of those ramps yesterday but I'm quite nervous about reversing it onto them when I havent got someone else to help just in case I push it a little too hard, I also dont have much room in my driveway. I may see if I can track down a lower jack, or speak to the guy when he pops round. If I get the opportunity i'll post some more pics.
