Is that your first year car? If so then it looks pretty damn cool. I know the hardest part is having a car ready for the competition at all. Though lately, with all the new competitions popping up all over the place, missing a deadline does not mean that you lose an entire year.

(I was in the Delft University team and though I'm not participating this year, I still come round our garage a lot)

You are one of the top teams... respect...

Yes, this was our first year car... It is 317,5 kg but we pulled it up to 87hp Smile The engine was great, powerfull and smooth, but we missed the transmition ratio by far... we didn't expect it to be so narrow and slow... Suspension was a bit of a broblem, brakes wouldn't work, the steering was heavy... On the straights, with me in the car 317,5kg+ mine 107kg=424,5kg we could keep up with verry strong teams, but in the chassis had poor torsion strenght and the car was killing heavy to manage trough the corners... slow reaction, sliding understeer than oversteer... but now we are at full atack!!! Smile

For comparison, Maribor, SLO done their 5th car I believe, the one on the picture... We were in front of them by a place or 2 almost everywhere... At the cost report they got so many points that even beating them on the endurance and fuel eficiency got us 35th, and them 31st... Smile They are ok people though... a bit hush and silent but good.

Wuff... I overdid this Formula Student stuf... sorry.. got a bit carried away... Banging head Smile

Haha, who cares..more in life then just one type of cars.
You had a car ready in time, thats what matters. Each event that you go to, you'll learn a couple of things and improve the car..though looking at Maribors car..you cant say the same of every team. Maybe they had a complete change of people in the team? Thats the really difficult part, setting up a production process that ensures a good, quick and validated design, transfers knowledge from seniors to new guys and coordinates the efforts between the various powertrain/chassis/suspension etc etc groups.
The last part is where Delft won the most..each change to the car immediately changes all the demands imposed on other parts as well, so these get redesigned asap. A lot of the stuff is designed parametric so small changes are made easily. By shaving tiny amounts of weight from the car the total weight dropped in my year from about 300kg wet to 125kg wet.

That is what we are trying to do with the new car... Put the knowledge and experience in the car 100% to get low weight, good transmision, and suspension... Then, sky is the limit (money exactly... but you know what I mean...)

Money doesn't need to be that much of a factor if you really do all the work yourself. Thats why we have the mills etc in our workshop, there are people producing parts round the clock from december to April..24h a day. Every bit of money left from sponsors is invested in stuff like this..the mills were bought from prizemoney 2 years ago. I built an engine dyno with the powertrain team in my year. It really helps to have these things around and available when you need them.

Anyway, I'll stop talking about it now..pretty difficult, the whole formula SAE thing is just too much fun.
