Anybody tried putting a non-tvis in AE86?
Hey

I now have the standard tvis 124hp engine... but im thinking of getting the non-tvis 140hp in... With this engine it can still pass MOT, so thats why i dont wanna go change to 20v or something like the Z.

But it seems that the inlet manifold is the wrong way. It is in against the car, and not out like the tvis.. I hope this makes sense! I mean.. the air filter pipe isnt out to front of car, but into the car...

U guys know what i mean?

Anyone tried this conversion?

There are several things you could do. You can try to simply flick it over - that might by tricky.. Another thing you could do is to take the throttle body off, weld the intlet, and chop the end, just to stick the throttle in that place. Another solution would be to match a bluetop's manifold, but it's gonna be troublesome... I guess the best solution is to make a brand new unit (maybe with a bigger throttle and a different injection setup Wink ), or to chop the runners off, flick the manifold over, and weld it back again in the same place.

I know, there's a good solution - you could put a nice set of Webers, Dellortos or Mikunis! j/k

EDIT: These could come in handy...

Good luck with it!

It is, but you'd need an adapter to make it work, and definetely a non-standard ECU. It'd be difficult to pass MOT with that kind of stuff... Though I've read about guys passing CARB in California with Webers.

Cheapest way is to buy one of these adapters from technotoytuning. http://www.technotoytuning.com/t3_site_p...apter.html

"Available for: Big Port (Blue Top) 4AG

Techno Toy Tuning now has 4A-G Hi-Comp, Small Port / Big Port adapter plates.

This allows the direct bolt-on of the Blue Top big port intake manifold to the hi-comp small port head. No swapping heads any more. These adapter plates are the same thickness as the TVIS plate and take the place of the TVIS plate (works as a TVIS eliminator)".
