The engine looks like a 2T-B to me, an old Celica engine.
1.6 8V, double carburetors and 86 bhp

Should look like this:

Yeah, could be a 3TC also. Nice but heavy engine, probably as good or better than the 4A-GE

I would vote for 2TB as well, the twin carbs give it away a bit. My first Corollas were TE71 with the 2TB engine, we didn't get the 2TG engine in the UK so that was as fast as they got. Had to wait until i could afford the insurance on an AE86.
