Use this diagram...
... and vampire clips. Then you don't need to cut any wires. Cheers... jondee86 The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. |

Above diagram is for an AE86 with the factory ECU and a 16V engine.
I've never heard of a speed cut on an AE86 factory ECU, but if you are running a 20V engine and 20V ECU you could have a speed cut. In that case you need a different diagram. The RSM instructions show this diagram to remove speed cut...
However, a quick google tells me that the 180km/hr speed limit was not introduced in Japan until 1988... so chances are the AE86 did not have speed cut. I've never seen it mentioned in any of the wiring documentation for the AE86, only for later model cars. But if you do find a speed cut wire, use male and female bullet connectors so that you can just plug the cut wire back together if you take the RSM out. Vampire clips should be fine, as long as you use the correct size for the wires you are tapping. There is no current being carried, only signal voltage. Isn't it easier to drive it and see if it goes above 180?
