Do's and Do'nts turbocharging 4agze
Hi guys.

Looing for some info of do's and don't by turbocharging a 4agze
and also GOOD sites with info about transfers. cause most of the sites I find are just loose awnsers on boards...

I am not aiming to pull out the max power, 200 -250 bhp would be verry nice!

for instans:

*what type (genaration) of GZE can be used best?
* internals --> what internals should be used?
* best turbo set up, what kind of turbo
*turbo manifold whats best?? Ramhorn or a simple collector
*internal / external wasegate
*screamer pipe (what is the main function of it?)
* ECU / megasquirt etc ??
*Gearbox and clutch type?

200hp target ?
No need even to open the engine (if freshly rebuilt/revised) - yes, I'm talking about good old bluetop from AE86 GTS, can run on stock CR with Megasquirt and something like T25/T28 Garrett turbo intercooled.
Clutch needs replacement with something like ACT, even organic will work.
Transmission will survive, rear end - too.

not excactly what I ment.. by the awnser...
does a blue top have the same strong internals as a gze ?
couse I know that it has got thicker rods then a 4age / 4afe and therfor a better base for turbocharching..

Stronger rods are necessary for higher revving engines, as long as you dont rev the shit out of the stock engine, it will cope with turbo just fine.
At high revs, the inertia of the piston pulling on the rods on the transition between the exhaust stroke and the intake stroke is the biggest force on the engine.
You could say that having the bigger bearings is a bigger benefit than the stronger rods. And ceramic coated pistons deal better with the heat.

When stock gearbox and rear end are weak for over 200hp - what is the point ?
Stock bluetop will survive that power. If you want to use GZE - okay, but for these power levels this is not obligatory.

owkee.. but the stock rear end can handle 200 hp + .. Ad (from holland ) has got the original axle and a 3sgte... and a W type gear box.
