No, I havent seen 10CR stock pistons. And yes, my personal opinion is that the main difference between blue and redtop is the CR, regarding the midler cams and heavier internals of the redtop. Which makes me believe that 9,4 is right.
But what about the whole EU dillers, books, manuals? Recently everybody believed in the BG toyota forum, that the final gear ratio of the AE86 LSD is 4,1 just because "somebody said so". Until a silly argument like this prooved it wrong . So we try to make sure... for the science  The links you provided (very nice ones indeed) are referenced mostly from USA and Australia, which is the question - are they different or not. How did you measure it? Do you know the size of the combustion chamber? "..el camino's aren't supposed to make sense, craziness is what makes the world go around." - Car & Driver, 1984 |

there are 2 types of OEM pistons for the 4AGE BLUE TOP with T-VIS (the same goes for the later RED TOP non T-VIS but higher comp.):
1) Hi comp Euro Map no cat 10.0:1 2)Low comp US/Swiss/Sweden AFM + cat 9.4:1 the first are used with the Map sensor no cat version and put 124hp the second were used on AFM+Cat+EGR set ups for the US, Switzerland, and Swden and put out 116hp So, yes, even if one eliminates EGR, the compression will still be lower, so do not expect the 124hp gain. further the ECU's used on both set ups differ NOT only in the MAP/AFM pick up signal, but also in their tuning, where the AFM ecu is tuned to accept EGR gases. In my personal experience, the elimination of the Cat and the EGR, brings worse prformance of the engine! keeping those systems alive and in good working condition, is the best way, to have a proper 4age for further tuning up, unless you are planning for a major mods and change the EFI etc. just my 2 cents... Now I don't know anything
2 punkara: Mine AE82 is from Swiss and it's MAP, no cat 2 El Camino: I mesured ~12 bar pressure, and I found a while ago somewhere that combustion chamber is 47,2 cc with 1 mm headgasket and calculeted a while ago that it's ~9,4/9,5:1. But the whole thing is preatty messy, the number about combustion chamber is fishy ... so don't count on this figures 100% ... I'm sending mail to Bill Sherwood ... Meshin,
12 is good compression regarding the 4AGE EU manual (I have it only in German ). There are some more differences I discovered reading it, like different spark plugs than the one in the US version, which are also separated depending on this - CAT or no CAT the engine is. The heatnumber is different, which makes me think the temperatures are different, also because of the different CR. Unfortunately in these (EU & USA) manuals there is no info about the CR. P.S. Bill Scherwood would be a good idea, if he was living in EU . "..el camino's aren't supposed to make sense, craziness is what makes the world go around." - Car & Driver, 1984 |

I belive firehawk is telling the right stuff...
I have good Simulation program for engines, and I put a lot of data in it, and stock 4AGE with 9.4 CR is pulling exacly 121 HP. With 10 CR it's exacly 124HP. And the difference between 9,4CR and 10 CR is 3,15 cc smaller combustion camber, almost exacly what firehawk mesured... So I think: Bluetop, MAP no cat : 121HP (AE82, MR2) 9,4:1 CR ; 124HP (AE86) 10:1 CR... Toyota scrap yard car park = AE92GTi - AE82GT - KE30 - KP62 |

The story becomes even more interesting now ... only 3HP from the differerence from 9,4 to 10? Different pistons in the bluetops depending on body type?

The numbers are from simulation program .. and I think they are OK. And about chasis it's my let's say feeling.. no hard facts supporting it. Only that a lot AE82 data says 121HP stock, and AE86 what I've seen 124 HP stock .. So it might be true, and it might be wrong Toyota scrap yard car park = AE92GTi - AE82GT - KE30 - KP62 |
