Cam upgrades for 4AGZE

if you seriously want to change a gze without going internal changes here is a list of easy mods to increase hp.

- good exhaust system
- Front mount intercooler
- bigger crank pulley (176mm)
- CatCams 7105137 260 / 252° 230 / 222° 9.00 / 8.50m 1.65 / 1.25mm
- good cold air intake
- one grade colder spark plugs
- 8mm+ sparkplug leads

I recon that with a the late model 4agze the engine should be able to reach 190-200 hp on the crank. Thinking the fact that the engine has 170 hp standard.

To be honest if I ever get a gze this will be my mod list. As this will take the vavles to longer and higher lift which the gze will benefit from.

And just to get the engine going get a light flywheel.

ps. the catcams are a set of good camshafts

@Robokill thanks for the great info man.. I'll be adding a FMIC and an Oil Cooler soon. The car is not 100% yet. CUrrently still running with a bypassed SC without a Intercooler

@Project D - I'm trying to put take the stock one and make it FMIC. Would that be good enough?

Also, what do you guys mean by a good exhaust? 2.5" inch straight-through exhaust? or wht?

If you fit cams with lots of duration and as a result overlap, you'll need to rev the engine to those higher rpms for them to work reasonably. At daily driving revs, the boost will dump lots of fuel into the exhaust and murder fuel consumption. Imho best left for track only engines operating in those high rpm bands. Since you can't up compression on an FI engine safely, off boost performance will be even worse then an NA engine.

For FI, like stated above, you want modest duration, minimal overlap and BIG lift. I don't think anyone made those kinds of cams for the 4AGE. If you throw these kinds of cams into a NA 4AGE, they will be known as weak, high torque, good for daily drive cams. Throw them into a GZE...different story and situation altogether.

Given what you know about engines, I would first experiment with higher boost (pullies) and the needed adjustments (sparkplugs, ignition, ECU mapping, fuel delivery, etc, etc), before deciding on a set of cams. I'm sure that there are some custom cam companies that can make you something decent. You need to first walk before you jump. Doing things incrementally will also decrease the chance for untraceable errors (and you'll have lots of those once you start messing with forced induction).

I will try to work with the boost and cooling and get the car to a very stable state and then I'll start bothering u guys again

I just found a good dual-core dual fan rad for it.. next step would be to have FMIC.. I'm hoping to use the same IC from the MR2 but you think that'll be enough?
