Can you convert your 86 back too the original state?
Hello everyone!
I'd like to know, suppose you convert your levin to a trueno. After a while you start to prefer the Levin look again. Can you convert it back, or will the bulkheads be too damaged for a reconversion? Thanks! |

Shouldn't be an issue as long as you keep all the parts.

The conversion requires the fenders, bonnet, headlamps and electric wiring to be swapped or adjusted. This means you don't need to damage the bulkhead (also known as firewall and this sits between the passenger compartment and the engine) to convert a Levin to a Trueno. So when you are bored from it you can easily swap everything back.

As I believe gh0st wan't to make a initial D replica...
Don't you need to do some adjustments to the bulkhead when fitting a 20v? |

The only real modification you need to make from Levin to Trueno are the headlight brackets.
Those are spot welded on, and you need to drill them off to fit Trueno lights. If you want to be able to swap back to Levin (sounds like a good idea), then I would just drill all the way through the spotwelds and put some rivnuts in place. That way you can bolt the brackets back on later. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Getting a relocation kit solves this problem. A cheaper solution would be to cut a hole in the firewall to accommodate the distributor, but I think don't think many people would opt for that these days. Oh and the cooling system also needs to relocated/modified |

However in Initial D there is no mention of the bulkhead/firewall cutting (or bashing) to make it fit. Maybe due to the dry sump system the engine sits lower with a slight sloped angle and therefore just clears the bulkhead? 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Can you convert your 86 back too the original state?
Hello everyone,
Thanks for the info. I’m still going to convert my levin to a trueno. If i ever wish to reconvert, it’s always nice to have the option! Now let’s hope the reconversion doesn’t make the car look uglier than it did in its original state, before converting to a trueno. |
