Making a roll cage that will be a good thing and pass for racing is a lot harder than it looks. Consider how you are going to bend the tubes without crushing them? USA is actually behind the rest of the word when it comes to building rally cars to regulations. The best guidlines for building a cage will probably come from CAMS in Australia. Look through the webside and read "schedule J" which is the rollover protection section.

Buy a cage and modify it. Its pretty hard to build a whole cage by yourself.
You have to buy a expensive pipebender and you have to use the right steel. Check up with FIA regulatives. Crome moly steel are not FIA approved. You can not use a pipebender with a hydraulic piston. You have to find a bender, that pull the pipe around a rod. I build my own, but bought the bended pieces, fitted them myself and fittet some ekstra pipes. Its is important, that you not hit the head against the pipes over you head, so beware of it and try it with seats in place. See the pics of my allmost finished cage. Project AE86 now begun. Cars I have owned: Toyota Starlet EP91 1,3 16v Turbo, 200hp Toyota Starlet EP71 1,3 12v Sport Mercedes 207D camper, 1977. Toyota Starlet EP70 with a 174hp Silvertop 20v See video here: http://videos.streetfire.net/search/Star...079edc.htm Toyota Corolla AE101 with a 164hp Silvertop 20v. (Evolution bodykit and candycolor paint). Volvo 240 2,1 (The only car I have maked money on). Toyota Corolla EE90 (my first car) |

Notice that in most FIA regulations , you must have a cross on the door side .
on my Federation rules , roll cage feet must have at least 120cm² of surface welded , or bolted with minimum 4 x 8mm bolts . Some good informations here http://www.wiechers-sport.de/Wiechers-Sp...g-2010.pdf Hope it helps Filh Filh Save the RWD cars |
