European AE86?
If you don't recognize this engine it must be because you don't know much about other Toyota-engine's as the AE86's 4AGE.
It's the same engine as (for example) used in our dutch Celica AT160's ST version, a 4A. Only now in RWD setup. Lot's of those engine's running over here in Europe...

I have seen plenty of different toyota engines (including older ones) but just not a 4a without an airfilter on top of it... Usually toyota engine families have a specific looking valve cover that makes it recognisable. And big stickers with the name on it also help

Probably they took off the airfilter. Even the popuplight front-cover is in the enginebay.
 It is probably worth repairing: the car does seem to be a GTS, except for the engine.. BTW: I heard there actually was sold a USDM spec trueno in Holland. But only a single car which ended on the autocross.

In our club (TACN) was one... But that one was converted to 4AGE afterwards and now sold.... Don't know where it ended up.

Well I've seen the remains of an ae86 hatchback for sale on marktplaats once,....totally messed up from autocross use..

Yep, that's the car!
