Fuel surge tank
Hi All.

I need to make a fuel surge tank, becourse when ever i´m under a 1/2 tank of fuel and i accellerate hard, the car will misfire.

So i have planned to make a 4inch pipe,20cmm tall.

With a return at the top,but my Q is,

Can i rute the return line to the OE return hose, with at Tee,so i don´t have to take off the tank and make a hole in it,
Or will it mess it up,so it will not even return to that tank, and instead the return fuel from the engine ,is going to the surge tank.

Can You understand this`

I have seen on the pics that Kristian have made one

Skassa

Skassa,

Itn't it so that the normal return line is no longer hooked to your gastank but hooked to the surge tank and that a new line runs from your surge tank to where your fuel return line used to be?

It´s just that if i mount it like that, when ever the car is cruising, the fuel vill be heated in the surge tank, becourse it will run closedloop,so i don´t think that is a good idea.

Yeah cause I would think it should be hooked up like I drew.

Fuel from the fuel tank is pumped into the surge tank, if its full it cycles back into the fuel tank.

The second pump gets it from the smaller surge tank and brings it to the engine.

If it works well the surge tank should always be near full.

I guess to perfect it your would need a switch that when the surge tank is full the fuel pump in the gas tank stops working else indeed you would be pumping around massive amounts of fuel and heating it up. Then again, that isn't really that different from running your engine at idle with a single fuel pump I think...

quite easy to make it work -
although - PLZ do NOT forget to fit an filter between catchtank & extra pump - i forgot this & ruined a perfectly good Volvo T5-R pump.

Now i will run an EVO6 pump.

Hmm, I don´t understand why it needs a filter there, exept if the catch tank isn´t clean when first mounted.

Knudsen,I need it welded in Stainless,i got a 4inch pipe from when i made a ´downpipe for the Impreza,so i need 2 endplates ø100mm,and 4 pipes ,that are 8mm outside.

Kristian,

Is it me or do you have a couple more lines then in my diagram?Smile

You do seem to have the pump external to the surge tank so that could be the difference...

Knudsen, if you can weld up a surge tank that fits a stock pump, that would be coolSmile

Denmark, just buy cheap aluminium thermos(flack) and use it as tank instead of welding etc. I bought one from local stores "TCM" - they sale Tchibo stuff http://www.tchibo.co.uk. Mine was 1l, dark blue anodised :-)
PS: You can use even electric fuel pump from carbureted car as fuel tank-to-surge tank pump.
