Getting some new tires soon, any ideas?
I'm in need of some new tires for my 86... Anyone have some suggestions?
I intend to put them on my 14" 280Z rims, and was thinking along the lines of 185/60r14 or 175/70r14 for a bit of stretch.
I'm not too convinced that 175 tyres will keep the car planted enough to have some fun though.
The wheels are 14x6J afaik.

The tires I have in mind are Falken Ziex (ZE-512 for the 185's pr ZE-326(??) for the 175's).

Any input on the tyre sizes and the falken ziex's?

on a 6x14" wheel, you wont get stretch with those sizes.....go for 185/55-14 or 175/60-14, they will fit the hachi well, and still complement some sporty driving. They still wont stretch, but will look good.
I have good experience with the falkens, stick to them.

Well I remember that 175's looked very nice stretched on 7J supra rims...my 280z "flying cross" rims look kinda similar. I guess I'll be going for 185 then, probably better not to go too skinny on the tires since I think toyota fitted 185's from the factory.
The Ziex ZE-512's are also about 12 euro's cheaper per tyre but are rated less high then the ZE-3-something ones.

I would like to get some info too on your thread, I hope you dont mind Ivan.

I am probably getting supra rims soon. I am going to get new tyres too. In my mind would be 185/60-14, is that would be nice and stretch? I have seen someone put 185/60-14 on his rewinds (14x7j), so I think this would be also nice on supra?

Where have you found your supra's? I believe they come in 14x7 and 14x6... so depending on what you have it will look more or less stretched.

The whole stretch thing is not really important though, it's just a cheap way of reducing sidewall flex on tires that dont have stiff sidewalls. Most sports tires do have stiffer sidewalls. I just like the way it looks and intend to drive my car on slaloms now and then, which is the only place that you're really going to notice any advantage to the whole stretching thing.

185/60 is a nice size for supra's and will fit well with a bit of lowering. Bigger tyre sizes also have their advantages, you can get more grip, and have the benefit of some protection against curb damage. But if you're not using expensive sports shocks and stiff springs you'll run into rubbing problems sooner.

BTW, I went ahead and ordered 4 Falken Ziex's... waiting any longer wouldnt make sense since the weather is too damn dangerous to be driving on 1mm profile tyres at the moment.

I have 185/55-14 on my supra´s, they dont stretch Sad and neither did the 185/60-14 i had previously.

Oh and ivan, I have been told that the Falken 512 are not as good as the Falken 451.....i used to have 451, and they were very impressive, compared to price.

Fitted the 14"stuff today...and took it for a spin. It's really weird.. parking just got a whole lot easier, the car's a lot more comfortable now as well. The sidewalls on these falken 185/60's are not very much use for very sporty driving I'm afraid, more comfort oriented, although the grip is not bad.
Made the car understeer earlier than it would with the 195/50r15 tyres that I had before. Guess I need to get something done about my suspension..I want to get koni's and lower the front again with the softer springrate springs that I detest so much. ..
enough blabla..sorry for the blurry pic, and the borolicious car, but what do you guys think?
