Hello, everyone! I've been registered on the board for a few months but hadn't posted anything so I thought that it might be time to say something.
I'm a Toyota enthusiast from Finland and have been in love for the AE86 for such a long time that the gorgeous sound of the 4A-GE is music to my ears. Unfortunately, I've yet to find myself an AE86 but I'm constantly working towards being able to finally have one. I do, however, drive several other Toyotas. My daily driver for the summertime is an MR2 Turbo, and I have a KP62 Starlet for drifting through the long finnish winter. A friend of mine and I also co-own an AE82 FX GT endurance saloon racecar with the "red top" 4A-GE from an AE92, and race the car in 6-hour Le Mans -style endurace races. very nice ae82
seeing all you have some work on the engine with the adjustable cam gears. Lot of camber on the car. Difrent exhaust if i look at the location of it. Good eyes you have there, Robokill.
The engine is quite close to a standard smallport 16-valve 4A-GE because we're a bit unsure whether we should be increasing the power further at the expense of fuel consumption. We've milled some material off the block and head, and use a TRD 0.8mm head gasket for about 11.5:1 compression ratio and adjust the standard camshafts accordingly with the cam gears. The pistons and rods have been balanced within one gram and for additional response, a 3.7kg TODA flywheel is used. The exhaust manifold is the standard cast 4-2 one, but we've modified a set of longer secondary pipes to fit the standard manifold and run a 2" straight pipe all the way from the collector to the rear of the car. A small flow-through muffler right behind the rear bumper keeps the noise down a bit. We had to push the exhaust as high up as possible because we had problems getting the car on and off the trailer as it sits so low. The class rules state that stock intake and exhaust manifolds must be used, as well as the stock throttle body and air filter box. This pretty much limits all performance upgrades to the engine internals and ECU. The front wheels have 4deg of negative camber, which we've found, using a pyrometer, to be quite perfect to the springs/shocks we use. The rear wheels have something like 5-6deg negative camber, which seems to work well if it's dry but makes the car intolerable if it's wet. |

Talking about the effects of neg camber on the rear wheels in the wet, our track-beater volvo 360 has about 3 degrees of negative camber on the rear and gave me quite a surprise yesterday. Just taking a corner at a regular non-granny speed ended up in a pretty smooth drift.
My ae86 that has an LSD as opposed to the open diff of the 360 doesnt go sideways that easily...guess the 195 tires and 0deg camber arent all that bad for grip. It's quite the opposite in dry conditions though.. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
