Greets from Germany
Greetings, my name is Steffen.
I live in germany near the black forest.
So lots of nice winding roads.

Right know i'm driving a BMW E36 and a Lotus Exige S2.

A friend of mine bought 2 AE86 a few weeks ago. I joked that i would buy one. After a restless night of thinking and watching Best Motoring i contacted my friend and bought the AE86 coupe.

Unfortunetaly the body need a full restauration. On the good side it has a LSD, tuned cams (idle it pretty rough) and an oil cooler.

My goal is to build a nice weekend car. The problem with the lotus is that it is very capable but to get the most of of it you need a racetrack. And to a certain limit it is pretty easy to drive.
I want a bigger thrill at moderate speed if that make sense.

The (German) AE86 came standard with a 1.5 LSD and oil cooler, or do you mean it has received upgrades?
Any ideas on the type of cams? (lift/duration)

I've recently seen a video where a certain person said a very similar thing. Tongue

1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project
2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver
2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain

@banpei i didn't knew that the german AE86 came with oil cooler and LSD from the factory.
It is indeed a german model from 1983 and a catless modell

In regards to the cams we will have to look inside the engine.Wink

And I would be interested to see which video you saw.

I will try to use quote feature next time i haven't used an forum in years.Blush

Edit: At least on german websites the AE86 coupe had 1.6l

You are definitely right and thanks I'm glad I found this forum. I wasn't fully awake when I edited that.
I will make project thread when I start my restauration.

Thanks. I will start in 3-6 Months. First thing is a giant buy list.
And a rough project plan. The good thing is a friend still has a lot of AE86 parts and they will arrive in few weeks.
Also a few parts like headlights seems very hard get or pretty expensive. That will be a nice scavanger hunt aka "Schnitzeljagd" as we call it in germany.

Welcome and best of luck with the restoration. I hope I can make some progress myself when back home.

@Bean i looked in your build thread. It seems that you are from switzerland. I live 10km away from the swiss border. Maybe we can met in the summer and go for a drive in the swiss alps.

I'm originally from Switzerland but don't live there anymore. I'll be in Switzerland in June though - maybe we can have a quick meet (if we do I'll see if decryphe will join us with his Trueno). No Corolla though as it's not registered right now and I still have quite some things to do to make it road legal in Switzerland again. If things for once go to plan I should be able to make it with my Z though Smile
