HELP!!4AGE small port/red top convert to silvertop quad....
hi all,

I got an AE86 with a small port 4age inside. The engine is stock except for a aftermarket 4-1 header.

and i've made a mod to the small port, as i got myself the adapter n the silvertop quad throttle, was so excited to bolt it on straight away.

After i'm done with the conversion, well, then engine start good, but then the engine is shaking like a dancing queen, when i try to rev the engine, the rev doesn't seem stable, n when i rev to higher RPM, the breathing of the quad doesn't sound good as well.

i've checked it over n over again, all the vacumn hose is all attached to where it should.

so i went to check other things, i've found that the 2nd combustion camber didnt work normally, when i shut the intake of 2nd camber, doesn't change on engine sound nor the rev, it happen to drop the rev n engine sound when i shut other 3 intakes.......

when i put on the original small port intake manifold, it's all good....

can someone identify this situation? what more should i do? where i did wrongly?

helps are appreciated regardless if it works or not, thanks.

Do i need a standalone ECU to make this works? any recomendation for the ECU, it's better the japanese ECU, it's more reacheable for me here at Malaysia....does E-manage or Apexi SAF-C neo does the trick?

Can you describe how you've linked your vaccuum hoses. If you've got a t3 adaptor there are four vaccum ports in adaptor, the throttle bodies themselves also have a number of vaccuum ports. These should all be joined to an accumulator/collector and the appropriate lines run off this for map sensor, FPR, and brake booster.

I would also pull the spark plug from no.2 and see if it's fouled.

I'm not using the T3 adapter, my adapter has no vaccum ports, my throttle body have 4 vacuum port, so i link all four vaccum port with T-connector with hose to the brake bosster n the little thing on the firewal, dont know what it is.

i've also pulled the no.2 plug cable when engine running, there's no change in rev or what so ever, but i'm sure that the cable itself is good, coz the engine is running healthy when i put on the original intake manifold....

E-manage Ultimate do the trick for sure (the blue one also works but it's obsolete)
but a standalone will be better.

No explosion in a single chamber is either:
No spark
No fuel
No air
No compression

And the lower you go in the list, the lower the probability becomes.
First make sure you have a spark at the cylinder. Don't assume all is fine, physically check that you have spark and that the gap is set appropriately.

Next check for fuel. Highly unlikely that it won't have any since 4AGE's fire in batchmode. Buy one of those car stethoscopes and listen if you can hear the injector ticking. Maybe improvise with a screwdriver and some common sense. Might be a ground or electrical problem thats causing trouble.

No air..maybe grosly misadjusted throttle plates? Can you feel it sucking air at idle?

Compression..this would be a very weird one if its ok with the stock manifold.

I don't think you can solve this problem by simply throwing an emanage at it..not if a single cylinder is not firing at all. you'll do that later to get back the hp you are losing in this conversion.

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

Chrisso Wrote:I would also pull the spark plug from no.2 and see if it's fouled.

You have to take the plug out. If you have spark at the wire but the plug
is not firing, it will be fouled with carbon, or wet down with oil and gasoline.
Put a new plug in to test.

If you use the four little black tubes on the throttle bodies, you will not
get a good vacuum signal. You need to get a signal from downstream of
the butterflys. Bad vacuum signal = bad idle.
