Hello European AE86 family

Nice car..looks like you have mad camber on one of the pics.
The difference between drifting ae86's and more powerfull cars is usually very easy to spot in most drifting movies. Most cars using brute power to drift leave massive amounts of smoke to fly around, 86's getting sideways usually do so with much less burnt rubber. And then when you watch keichii's drift bible you see that he drifts high power cars with minimum tiresmoke as well. Guess it just takes more skill that way.
I dont drift my own car, but do want to start learning when I get my suspension sorted out.

Ivan - Yeah, got BV NCRCA's and T3 coilovers with camber tops. I remember they were set to max negative that day...

Amazingly, AE86's and the like are marked down at the UKD1 comps cos they don't produce smoke!! You actually gain points for the more smoke you make, and the gayer competitors talk with each other about which tyre to choose that make the most smoke!!

The commercialised mainstream UK drifty scene is a bit ghey at the moment...

Mux - Easy on the BM's as I like them... but yeah, I've had an E30 325i as well and it is so easy under power (torque really) compared to the AE86.

Will,

Nothing bad on BMWs for sure, I used to own an E30, so did my mom. Also one of my friends who runs on the Nurburgring has one of the nicest M5s I know of (and incidently has the skills to drive this car far beyond its limits).

In the same respect I really like the S13 and S14 200sx's, I almost bought an S13 at some point.

What I lack respect for is people choosing these cars because of their surplus in power just because they dont have any driving skills.

Now that doesn't mean I have driving skills, but it does mean I rather buy a car I need to learn how to drive to its limits before I can do something good with it, then buy a car that any dumbo can drive fast.

See - that's why I like being around AE86'ers, they seem to believe in what's important, not horsepower numbers and brand names.

A lot of us over here would love to see how some of the guys in bigger powered cars faired in an AE86 or similar archeic, low powered car. There's a lot of good drifters over here that would still do great, but many wouldn't know what to do with a Corolla...

That's one of the thing I like best about the AE86: it's an underdog and people underestimate it.

I'd hardly call the AE86 an underdog. Word has gotten out enough for people to recognize one when they see one. Then YOU have to step up to the expectations generated by all those great drivers in the Japanese driftmovies. Good luck on that one :!:
By the way, nice to have someone with actual experience on with the 20V engines to chime in. Some people here need a reality check in that department.
