Help Needed with steering.

Hello again everyone!

Still haven't got my car starting properly but it does start occasionally and I was able to drive it get an MOT on it recently.

On the way to get the MOT I noticed that the play through the steering wheel has developed to the point where there is no feel at all through the steering wheel almost feels like I'm constantly aquaplaning.

My friend at the MOT centre had a look over it and identified there is a lot of play in the UJ that goes into the steering rack, I had always assumed the rack is the problem!

So now I obviously want to do the cheapest easiest option of replacing the UJ to see if that eliminates most of the play as it is kind of scary to drive at the moment. My problem is I'm not sure if I have a power steering or manual rack, I have always been under the impression it is a power steering ran with the pump removed, how can I confirm this?

Also where can I get the correct UJ from? I read an old thread on here a little while ago and someone had said you can still get the manual rack UJ from Toyota?

So should be easy to tell the difference.

They are still avaliable from toyota, but as allways I think they are mega expensive! I remeber someone telling me (since the very little play left in my steerting comes from the UJ) you can use E8 E9 FWD corolla ones, they are probably still avaliable from a scrapyard?
