How far should I have to push my clutch in
My 86 is my first manual car so im not to keen on the workings of a clutch. I dint know much but I feel that my clutch dissenguages and enguages without much presssure on the pedal. I only need to puch my clutch pedal in about an inch to shift in and out of gear. Does that seem strange? I feel like my clutch may not be grabbing onto gears as firmly as it should. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, DINKERS |

It is probably one of two possible problems. If the clutch master cylinder has be replaced and was not adjusted, check the free play at the master cylinder push rod. [needs to be 1mm] Mostly likely it's the slave cylinder push rod that is pre-loading clutch arm. The push rod in the slave has internal threads that allows you to adjust the length so you do not preload the clutch. While you are under the car adjusting the slave push rod, I would also bleed the system. Dave W

How far should I have to push my clutch in
I just had both replaced a few months back! Are there markings to let me know its at 1mm or do I just use my best judgement?

There's a diagram in the service manual here: http://files.aeu86.org/manuals/AE86Manual.pdf that shows the acceptable pedal height and free play ranges and where to make the adjustments. To measure just place one end of a ruler on the floor/firewall (pull carpet back some behind pedals) and the other along one side of the pedal. |
