That distributor sucks! Are they insured against this or does this fall under the "collateral damage" section in their contract? Undecided
And is it doable to source a new dizzy?

I passed along the news to the shipper/sender. His claim was that it was fine when it landed in the US. I did some research on Toyodiy... the distributor is about $1200... and of course as with everything else for the 5V, it is unobtainium unicorn horn.... Sad The Shipper is going to TRY and claim it... and of course they also broke the ISCV
($600), so that is on the claim as well... WE shall see....

This does present me with an opportunity... the distributor is the tallest part on the engine, and it being up front caused many an awkward hood scoop/bulge. If I run a crank fire ignition, and just use whats left as the oil pump drive, I can lower the hood some, as well as removing other unobtainium parts like the distributor cap and rotor.

Its a shame about the distributor, but the unit looks pretty clean other than that. I don't know what it is about engine parts, but I've experienced similar issues with engine components being broken (or stolen) during transit.

Don't let them stonewall you when you're trying to claim for the damage dude, they'll probably try everything to get out of paying.

The gaskets came out... kinda as you can see in the one photo above... and below

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - I bought a Hemi - Project Lit'lphant]

I've sent the gaskets to Cometic, they SAY they can make custom gaskets... we shall see......????

so, while waiting to hear back on the gaskets....

oiling for the cam lobes, and lifters. Interesting "windage tray" for the camshaft, and note the machined-in channels to direct oil @ the camshaft. Additionally note the structure - from the cam cap bolts holes are along the same rib as the head bolt holes.

Main studs.... full counter weighted crank, and "giraffe" aka diesel type connecting rods - similar rod type to the one used in 4U-GSE/FA20 engines

I want to thank Robert(and his wife), owner of https://etsuryu.com/. His help in this project has been immense, from helping me find this engine, to helping me secure the starter, and the service manual, to now saving me a great deal of time, and frustration.

As you see in previous posts my phone has been very useful when it comes to translations.... but, it hasn't been perfect, and I've used my collective automotive knowledge to "assist" where it says the right words, but gets structure a bit wrong.

Well, this is the most complex page I've had to translate.... and my phone had a really tough time with it, it took about 10 passes with the phone before it made any sense....

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - I bought a Hemi - Project Lit'lphant]

but I was not feeling confident about this translation, so I asked Robert if he would assist me, the following day he had sent me this, translated by his wife (who is Japanese)

While some of my phones translation was somewhat correct, what I had as the spec, and what is written were DIFFERENT... my translation was set 1mm down, measure to 2mm down, was very wrong. The spec was to set the lifter 2mm down then test/measure it 1mm further. My method would have likely condemned all the lifters Sad

So, thank you Wife of Robert Wink

Wow! That's a good example not to always trust the (Google) automatic translations...

Thumbs up!

As I said... the confidence factor just wasn't there....
