Idle problems
Maybe you could join the two small hoses together(temporary) and try to block the hole in aav if removed .That's what I did and it works .
The only problem is when it's cold , you 'll have to let your foot on the gas pedal to have idle , but it doesn't take long for the engine to be warm. Thanks again Jondee . Problem solved twice........ ; No more bouncing idle , due to your advice , and no more idle at all as I broke the engine again on my last rally event ...... It was a used one I bought while waiting the racing one to be rebuild !! Probably a broken piston or rings or both . Blue smoke and 1/2 liter oil for 20km ! My machinist is happy Regards Phil Filh Save the RWD cars |

Idle problems
Picked up my gaskets and such at Toyota today to put the now RTV-free AAV back on the car. Cleaned everything, replaced vacuum hoses, burped the radiator, and ROCK SOLID 850 RPM warm idle without any other adjustments - 900 with the heater fan on max.
Looks like everything is good. The real test will be the drive to work in the morning as it's going to be below freezing. |

Idle problems
Has anybody tried to clean AAV or fix it somehow? Mine is keeping 400-500 rpm more during hot idle. Any tip for fixing & cleaning AAV?

Idle problems
Yesterday I cleaned it with oven cleaner A lot of shit came out. I'm not sure but the most of it looks like old rotten rubber pieces. Has anybody opened it? Is there any rubber part inside?

Idle problems
I opened it and there is moving cone (black) and plate with the hole. This picture is taken in boiled water so the cone almost close the hole for bypass air. The plate can be screwed in and out but I do not have such tool.

Idle problems
So, after cleaning AAV and bleeding cooling system of air bubbles, I got 900 rpm warm idle
Not bed as there is -1 C outside. Of course, it could be better but as I don't have this adjusting tool 900 rpm is better then 1200-1300 as before. Cheers Fun is not the straight line! |
