Idle problems
It is mounted to the throttle body, and it means auxiliary air valve.
Oven cleaner is just a solvent for cleaning ovens, available at your local Maxi I'm sure. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Sometimes there is a black rubber cap on top of the tube. Turn the screw clockwise to lower the idle speed. Cheers... jondee86 |

As I said, there is an adjustable plate inside AAV but you need the special key to adjust it. So it can be adjusted from the inside as well. Fun is not the straight line! |

Hachi Wrote:thx... i found it on toydiy... I've tried to clean it with the brake cleaner first but with no results. It's not exactly the oven cleaner but for cleaning fireplaces glass screen. Basically it's the same thing. It looks like this: Fun is not the straight line! |

Idle problems
Hachi Wrote:yyy i get it now... I boiled it after cleaning just to check it's operation. The black cone should come up and close the bypass hole. Some small amount of air will still pass. There are no special tips, you just have to: 1) Remove throttle 2) Take off AAV (5 small screws under throttle body) 3) Clean it with solvent, then with water. Repeat a few times. It’s good to change water temperature to make some movements inside during cleaning. You'll se all dirt and black water coming out each time. Repeat until it's clean. 4) Dry it and put just a little WD40 inside. 5) Put all back together. Probably you will need to change gasket + small o-ring. I bought new rubber o-ring and made gasket from special paper. 6) Run the engine and bleed the cooling system from air bubbles. ...and I hope you will get at least 200-300 rpm lower idle. ... and few more things. When you remove throttle it's good to:
1) Replace 2 seals on the butterfly shaft to prevent false air coming in and reduce shaft vibrations. I think I manage to find 15/8 seals, the original is 15/9 (as far as I remember, better mesure it first) and it’s very hard to find. Put some grease during replacement. 2) Inspect throttle plate and shaft from wear and sharp edges (usually occurs on plate sides and cause "sticky" throttle feel). Carefully remove sharp edges (if there is any). Fun is not the straight line! |

Excellent pic
http://www.aeu86.org/download/ae86/id/13759.jpg How did you get the yellow wax thing out of the end? http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa307...0_1534.jpg max_ae86 Wrote:I opened it and there is moving cone (black) and plate with the hole. This picture is taken in boiled water so the cone almost close the hole for bypass air. The plate can be screwed in and out but I do not have such tool. http://www.skynet.ie/~eireae86 |

Idle problems
irishtwincam Wrote:Excellent pic On this picture is my spare aav, so I opened it just to see what is inside and to take a few pictures for you guys. Actually it was very easy. First I removed silicon and just drilled a small hole in the middle of the plate, put the screw in and pull it out. I think this could be done with some kind of vacuum puller as well, to avoid drilling  It goes out preaty easy. NOTE: For cleaning aav it is not necessary to remove this outer plate. But if you want to try to make adjustment of inner plate (with bypass hole) then you must opened it. I personaly didn't manage to move inner plate, I do not have such tool.
