NoHachi Wrote:Kris, why not throw in a large single cylinder four stroke engine? The latest breed of them (around 650cc) produce around 80hp tuned, but more importantly..massive amounts of torque (as much or more then a 4cyl racing engine). I think it would still be mad fast, lighter and due to the wider power band, much more fun to drive (less shifting).
BTW: I would keep the shifter manually operated by some kind of lever. electronic shifting is very prone to failures and difficult+expensive to repair.

Our little formula student car was similar i think. 75bhp@130kg, but had vastly better suspension and monocoque. That thing was just plain mad. The drivers decided to leave the car in 4th gear for the whole race. It would still smoke the tires at any rpm, and these were custum slicks made from a ultra soft and sticky compound.

The company that i´m building it for wants the 600/900 4cylinder - their choise - not mine - but i´d still go for the 600/900 engine - more fun.

Singlecylinder 650-800cc 4-stroke = massive torque - nothing else.
It might also torquesteer the chassie to easy (= twist it)

This is supposed to be BRUTAL - nothing else

I´m quite certain - That it WILL BE !

Cool

Your looking at some heavy reinforcements to keep it in one peice after the engine swap. Put it 2nd gear floor the throttle and pop the clutch (standing still) and you might even do a backflip without a ramp...

Mikael Dumb question

HeHeHe Engine weight differences are like 50% onthe negative side - so not really that much.

yes Mickael - all reinforcements are speciall planned for with help of a friend that has built his own Super7 - You know the guy from REJSA.NU with Seven using an T5 engine

Fun project! Smile

I will also hold you to the testdrive promise.. Hurray!

Actually the torque of (for example) the -03 CBR954RR Fireblade is SICK! It is rated at 105Nm@9500rpm, whereas the typical single cylinder ~600cc machine delivers about half as much.. So I think the four cylinder powerplant is DEFINATELY the best choice..
I have driven the 954 a couple of times and it really scares me.. My own -97 CBR1000F with 135hp feels really s l o w in comparison. A little twist of the wrist is all that is needed to lift the front wheel almost in any speed.

Using: -98 Camry 3.0 V6
Abusing : -85 Corolla 2.0 GTi
