RE: Krullibulls Ae86 (SWE)
Glad someone likes it pack
To continue the project thread. Me and my girlfriend moved in together in the next town over so I thought it would be a good idea to change garage as well. The AE86 in my little corner in the new place. Didn't do much to the 86 that year more then do a bunch more driftdays! Then I went down to the Netherlands and picked up a new engine for the 86 As you can see I chose to go down the popular BEAMS route. So I started tearing down the car for the swap but at this point as was having serious doubt if I could pull of a swap in that crap house of a garage. The guy who showed me the place was just talking bullshit it turned out. One of my friends summoned up the place quite accurately: F: "Oh! So this is the place." Me: "What place?" F: "The place where cars and projects come to die..." And that's when I decided to move to another garage and luckily there was a perfect place available, it only had to be built first, by me. So here are some pictures of the progress for the new garage. The first time we looked at it. That took a lot of time to get done! All autumn, winter and spring. But the work was worth it in the end. Move in day! Started getting to work straight away with tearing down the diff to see what was wrong with the LSD. It had been acting strange the last drift days I did. Pulled it apart completely and could find nothing wrong with it :/. So I cleaned it up and put it back together. Then my buddy who I share the garage with moved his car there. And I bought a FRP front from Max Force Ready. Already had FRP fenders, hood and hatch from XTR. Drove the 86 as my daily during my vacation and the LSD started acting up again! . Was quite pissed about it until I did some research and found out that I had been using the wrong oil all these years I've been using Castrol 75w-140 LSD oil. It seemed like a good choice when I picked it up with my mechanic friend since it was for BMW M models, AMG and Datsun GTR. Surely that would be good enough for my 86. Switched to Redline 75w-90 and the rear end has never been better! . The LSD behaves as it should and it's even quieter then before. Since everything was working and I had some tyres left I did some driftdays this summer aswell. So now we're up to today. Just prepared the 86 for inspection. It's not a huge task since all I need to do is put the backseat in and change the 4-link to stock ones since I don't have dust covers on the rosejoints. It was supposed to be this easy but out of nowhere the fueltank started leaking. Did a temporary fix on it, just so I can get trough the inspection. If I get through the inspection it's 2 years until the next one since the car is so old. As the rules are today over here there is basically no chance of me getting it legal with the BEAMS engine, so this will probably be the last inspection ever for this car. // Johan |
