LHD AE86 headers and exhaust

^Mine didn't fit, but it was a custom request in 409 stainless that they hadn't done before on the ae86 unit (normally they come in mild steel). It fit on their jig, but they said the 409 may have reacted differently than they were use to when exposed to heat cycles in the ceramic coating process... I will say Martelius' customer service is among the best I've encountered and they gave me a full refund.

To everyone else: I'm curious if there's any surface corrosion (and how bad) with the martelius 4-2-1 over time, and if any of you with it park the car outside?

I've got a trd 4-1 (oem ceramic coated) and it has surface corrosion on the bottom of the dp that runs along the frame rail under the car. I have no idea what type of steel trd used.

I have the manifold heat wrapped so I don't know about rust there but I remember I got a partial refund years back because the coating was peeling off. There is plenty of rust on the "2 to 1" section I have but the over-axle bit looks good from memory. I drive my car summer time in any weather and park outside. Whole winter its stored inside.

I'm mainly wondering about the manifold/dp (the 421 piece) due to the mild steel material. (My car is catalytic converter equipped and I've got a fujitsubo legalisR stainless cbe.)

Bringing this topic back from the dead.

My exhaust is rattling itself to death so in dire need of an upgrade.
Decided to go for a martelius setup.

I'm going for the street group a header but what size over axle should i get?
My engine is stock but i'm going to fit a set of mild cams next year.

So 50mm or 63mm? Which one is the best performance wise?

Google will tell you that 2" is enough for ~200hp.

iirc the group A from Martelius ends in 50 anyway so would work better with the 50mm exhaust.

When I installed a stock smallport in my car I used the factory cast AE86
exhaust manifold and 2>1 section mated to a custom 50mm over axle
exhaust. The fabricator said the 50mm was better for torque as it kept
the gas velocity higher. The system worked very well and continued to
work well with 272 cams and ITB's and the limiter raised to 8200rpm

It is possible that the engine was restricted a little at the very top end of
the rev range (>7500rpm), but considering how little time the engine would
spend at that rpm, it was not a problem in a road car.

For a highly modified N.A. or a GZE you might use a 63mm exhaust, but in
general it is considered to be too big for a N.A. 4AGE. 57mm diameter is
the recommended maximum for cars with medium modifications (cams, carbs
headers and a compression bump). I once put a 57mm exhaust and 4>2>1
headers onto a stock 4AGE and it did nothing except make more noise

So I recommend going with the 50mm exhaust for a DD/road car.

Yay, as others say; 50 mm is indeed the way to go

After 2,5 years on the car, my Gr. A headers / street system exhaust still has to show any sign of corrossion. Sure that it has barely seen any bad weather and the car has always been parked at garage, but it's still clean.
