like any language, learning it is really difficult. It's learning all the slang that makes cantonese really enjoyable...
like with my friends...literally our greetings to each other are "diu lei" which means fk u...ahaha

if you want to learn cantonese quick, ask ur gf to watch cantonese films and dramas and you will be surprised how easy it is to pick up. I had a thai friend who knew nothing, after watching countless movies and hanging round with chinese ppl, his chinese was awesome!

good luck with the language!

i agree by watching loads of movie. but i think cantonese is quite difficult to learn reason being is you can't translate the pronunciation in english unlike Mandarin and some words can be pronounce differently when use with other word. specially the accent and it's not a broadly spoken language. i am from Hong Kong aswell. Kenny, hey you got msn?Smile

I really need to learn this language, I'm terrible at learning a language in the first place, kantonese is proving to be nightmarish to me although my wife is complementing me on the 2 words I finally pronounce correctlySmileSmile

Grammer is easy as can be, easier then english I would say, but saying the words right.. man.... to many things sounding exactly the same but still being very different to eachother...
