My 4age project.
So....I have aquired a Redtop (non-tvis) 4age, which was in desperat need of new pistons after 1 burned pretty bad.
This will be my winter project and I have the following in mind with it. Bored out to as much as possible, apprx 1700cc. Forged pistons Individual throttle bodies from a 20V Complete balancing Schrick cams Adjustable camgear (TODA or HKS) Maybe new valve train if needed. The head will remain untouched except for renovation. This project will be under way within the next month, and i have an appointment with a very good engine tuner in 2 weeks, who will be doing the whole nine yards. He suggested we had a meeting before starting, to see what my requests were and what the engine was supposed to be used for. In this case, every day driving/the odd trackday. I think it will be quite a challenge for him to make it perform good for both purposes, but i have confidence it can be done. I will get pictures as soon as possible, before sending the parts out. The engine has allready been taken completley apart, and is ready for action. |

Good luck on your project Peter.
I suggest you that you make adjustable cam pulley by yours self and invest the saved money somewhere else (HKS cams, not schirck). Drifting - best fun you can have in your car with your pants on! |

Nice pics of those adjustable cam pulleys Zax! I would spend the money where it matters more as well. There are plenty cheaper camgears than the hks/toda ones (toda is just way to expensive).
For daily driving you'll probably end up with some wilder cams...272 degree's maybe..I think idle will suck for a daily driver if the cams are more extreme, but then again I'm speaking from zero experience. Your engine guy will probably know what's best from experience. If you use better valve springs and the toyota yaris inner shim buckets you will be good to go with some nice high-lift cams. I have no idea what the lift is on those cams, but I will try and get him (the engine specialist) to measure them for me.
Also, i just bought a set of 20V ITB, so i think i´m in pretty good shape for a nice setup. I talked to a danish guy who knew some shit, and he told me that a friend of his was running a red-top with ITB, 268cams, complete 2" exhaust(incl manifold) and he had 170hp. Seems pretty neat if that amount is obtainable....can help thinking what i´ll get with the big bore added as well. Could one hope for 180-190Hp?? |

Why would he need a piggyback? The stock ecu can cope with cams up to around 272 degree's if I'm not mistaken. I think it was above 170hp that you would need ecu changes. ITB's dont make a piggyback necessary either. That said, there could be some performance to be gained from that setup using an aftermarket ECU
