My AE86 - On the mend
Back in November, as some may recall, I had a bit of a moment in my car, whereby I nearly had a collision with someone out on the road, but rather than have a head on crash, I hit the curb with quite some force, causing this:
After much messing around with the potential of re-shelling the car due to a lack of panel beaters willing to touch the car due to it's age. I finally found an old style panel beater who has repaired the damage: So, now with things looking to be back on track, I have gone over the car to see what can be removed and uncovered for any other repairs prior to a respray and I have found some holes in a few places that I didn't expect The repairs have started, with the help from a friend who is handy with a welder While I strip the car ready for fresh paint While I wait for further welding work to be done and for the car to go in the oven ready for pain preparation, I have some new goodies waiting to go on the car an more on the way, but I hope to update with those over the coming month. |

Well, that does feel like it has come out of nowhere, since it didn't seem that long ago that I had the sideskirt off and there was no signs of rust under there, but it's only on the near-side, the off-side is rock solid. It's more the hole in the bulkhead under the arch that got me, I have been pulling cables in and out of there for a long time, but it was only when I poked around with a screwdriver, that I noticed there was something hiding underneath the seam sealer. |

One winter with salty roads is enough for so much rust if you dont have adequate protection
