N2 86's?
Hello
Can I ask what the deal is with the N2 (wide bodied) AE86's? I have seen one for sale in Japan from a Japanese garage and was wondering about the differences beteen the stock 86 and the N2 version. Is it simply just the arch kits or does it go deeper (suspension, engine, spec)? The details I have been supplied with are a bit ropey so just trying to do some digging to shed some light on what the car is. Anythings to look out for on the N2 cars, like bad rust (I gather gunk will collect under the wings etc) Is it a particularly desirable model? Cheers James |

It is not a stock model.. Just a widebody kit developed for the 80's N2 races. They are readily available on the aftermarket and the chances of finding an original N2 prepped car are not very high.
The only rust problems this kit might create are around the fenders if the cutting wasnt finished off nicely. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

It does look cool dosnt it, and uber rare (at least in the UK) - i dont see any stock Hachis let alone N2 bodied ones
I suppose one advantage to having those massive blistered arches is I could shoe horn some wide wheels in there and widen the track which would make it excellent for grip driving. Cheers James |

Yeah, that's the catch, for drifting it would suck and you'd have to rebuild your whole suspension and still use spacers to get the wheels where you'd want.
But it sure looks good. |

Wouldn't be all that great for grip driving either. Humongous tires mean very little traction in the wet, so basically unusable in our climate. Some normal rims and tires with enormous offset would be better.
Also huge tires dull the steering respons and precision making it less fun to drive the car. They do provide more grip, so for racing it makes sense. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

I prefer CBY flares, the N2 flares look bad on coupe's IMO, and I also think they suit the trueno better.

There is an amazing large photo on one of the best motoring ae86 specials in the background of a section where they are talking. It looks like the start of an N2 series race. Its black and white - looks sooooo cool. Wish I could find it.
