Maybe it's powerfull but it breaks down very often Smile
Well, atleast it's better than the S12 engine. Wink

Not true, CA18DET spanks the KA... after mods Wink

135 horsepower and 1250kg to be precise...
If you can find one with the 2.0 DOHC FJ20 engine, that would be pretty nice. That has 150 NA horsies, still not spectacular, but better.

Ivan--- The S12 has 122 hp in Sweden - WITH turbo

Only the early S13 engines had some probs with oil feeding to the turbo causing them to need a replace, but other then that the S13 engines are one of the most relyable turbo'd engines around asfar as I know. Only prob is that there are so many kids who beat the crap out of their engines, even our 4AG would have a hard time reaching 100k before needing a rebuild....

S12 engine indeed sucks ass but the nice thing about these cars is that most things are pretty swapable, dropping a CA20DE in there is a piece of cake I've heard.

Also there is so much you can do with these things. Other guy I know told me you should take a CA18DET, get one of those SOHC 2 liter engines from an old blue bird, take the top of the CA18, bolt it on the bottom of the 2 liter and you got a freaking bit of power under your bonnet and junkyard prices. Pretty scary stuff

Hmmm, the intial CA20DET should output atleast 169HP. As far as I know the CA18DET outputs 135HP when it was put in the S12, the newer CA18DE (S13 in Japan) outputs from what I heard about 117HP: quite an improvement within a few year. Combine the newer CA18DET top with a 2 liter engine and it should be awesome! Big Grin

Banpei, the engine in the S12 is a SOHC engine, not a DOHC as in the S13. The D in CA18DET stands for DOHC so... I could be mistaken but the CA line of engines didn't make it into these cars until the S13s.. Only the 2liter S12 had a CA engine I think.

But I am no expert, so could be remembering this stuff wrong, did some research when I was thinking about buying an S12 a long time ago...

You are right. The SX Owners Club put up the wrong enginetype for the S12: the 1.8 liter turbo is indeed a CA18ET, so a SOHC. Wink
