Okidoki..Car has been dropped off at the bodywork shop. It looked terrible when I picked it up, dus everywhere, misc bodyparts missing and lots and lots of brown smudges where the bodywork has been attacked by rust. However, at arrival the bodywork guy started poking with a screwdriver and could only puncture the body at 1 location...looks like the car is structrally sounder then I thought.
Anyway every speck of rust will be sanded down and repainted, depending on the total cost of that work, I might or might not have the entire car resprayed. At the moment though, I am seriously contemplating to just repaint small areas of the car and invest the paintjob money in the suspension.

Personally I'd go for the paint job. You will have to do it some day anyway so painting stuff now takes extra money (even if it is not much) and I think doing a full respray gives better guarantee that the costly repairs done now will last.

Suspension can also be done later as long as the current setup is MOT worthy, ok you might not have the drive you'd like but at least you have a sound basis to improve once you do have the money...

But that's just my opinion...

Okido..first update:

Have been poking screwdrivers everywhere. No real structural rust yet, have to check the floorpan myself still, but the guy said it was ok still.

New sills needed for left side, will be going in tomorrow.

Current paintjob is pretty thick and more than decent overall. We think we can get away with applying a coat of extra paint on top of the current layer. That would just require minor sanding and prepping. Price would be around 300E (No brainer).

Car looks stupid and fat on the orinal rims.

Minilite rims are not the right PCD...damn...damn

Removed most of the trim etc. Needs to be polished/painted/whatever. Ordering as much new parts as I can get my hands on.

Need Docs spare front valance. Volkswagen mk1 GTi chin spoiler ordered..lets see whether it'll fit.

Battery dead...contemplating relocation to the trunk..

Problem #1:
The front valance I was counting on will not be coming my way. Apparently the owner (also on the forums) decided that if I waited so long while looking for a window, that I should have no problems with waiting another half a year. Not quite the same helpfull mentality as you find in the AE86 community..must be the vastly reduced number of parts still around.
Anyway, I need to have something ready for painting this week, so I guess I'll have to depend on creativity to restore the original example...lets hope it is still possible,

Its still on the donor car. Oh well, moving on.

Update 2:
New side sills have been welded in, looks pretty damn cool. 90% of all rust has been removed and new metal welded in. Front wings needed a tad of restauration, have been completely remodeled through welded in material and tin, pretty cool thing to watch.

New battery on its way..just 15E so for the time being it will remain in its stock position.

New front valence will be made from carbon. Its soooo nice to have friends in the racing buisiness. He heard my sob story about not getting a front valance afterall and took pity in me. He does expect problems with delamination after a while, with all those stones hitting it. So we'll be making a run of 5 or so. Won't be needing paint afterall. Looking at the possibility of doing the interior as well.

Still doubting whether to respray or not...car is looking better and better.
