Nomukens humble AE86 project
Hi,
just thought it was about time to introduce my Hachi. I know this car since 2005 when a pal 8that goes by the name of Patrick) bought it in germany as his spare AE while he was repairing his 3 door Hachi. When he sold the car in 2007, I was quite low on cash so I suggested him to sell it to another good friend of mine (Yves aka. User Eiwiss). So about two months ago Eiwiss decided to sell the car to! And because I couldn’t persuade him to keep it, I simply had to buy it The following pic shows how the first drive ended. Engine mad a really bad noise and dripped oil after only 1km or so. So, back to the garage and out with the engine. Opened the sump and the oil pump looked like this: Yeah, pretty bad news, so we continued the disassembling and found some really nasty main bearings: Conrod bearings weren’t that much better: So whe checked the crank, and as u can imagine it was damaged to. So some bigger parts were needed. As I couldn’t locate a short block or crank, we went to jdm parts in the Netherlands to buy a new used longblock. Being shocked by the broken 20V, I decided to open this one as well to check it. Decided to replace the 5 main and 4 rod bearings with some nice OEM new ones and did thome other minor work. Reassembled the engine : Swapped all the parts like waterline Kit, dizzy relocation, water pump and threw the BT back in. After a few tryes the engine starte right up. Had quite a high idle, but it roared just right. So out the garage, on the roads Fitted the first bucket and some oil gauges Next things to come: roll cage, AFR meter, second bucket and lots of driving |

Time for a little update. Changed the worn out tranny mount for a Cusco item. They say it’s stronger, but it makes no difference for me.
Next thing on the list was the rollcage, it’s a 6-point cage including double door bars and the rear X-brace. I soon found out that my bucket seat could’t stay where it was. I’m 1.90m, the AE is pretty small and the cage mounts pretty low so many hours were spent to get the seat in a lower position and still be adjustable. I finished by removing the rear OEM attachment points and some new metal was welded in to fix the seat rails. Height is now pretty perfect. My shoulder sits just under the edge of the door. Waiting for parts isn’t funny, so I got my self something nice: The rest of the spare time was wasted on my broken 20V Needs new crank, oil pump and honing. And a little teaser of whats going on the car next. Compomotive ML8x15 with Toyo T1R in 195/45: |
