Not too rusty?!
Hi All,
The car is in Hong Kong. The main reason for this AE86 is that it might get 5-seater license. The price to restore this AE86 is as much as importing one from Japan. But the newly imported AE86 cannot be registered as 5-seater. I have the time but not the money... I wish I could DIY restore it, but I am a novice not a expert... I wish I could have great fun restoring it, but I worry it ends up a nightmare... Please share your experience with me... |

Would also say, that this is the wrong AE86 for you... Its heavly rusted!
I am building my own AE86 right now, and is also has a lot of rust, and under that rust, there is more rust. I am also no expert, and it takes a lot of time to do the rust work, and there is no body parts avaible at Toyota to help you with the work... Find one in a better condition, and buy this rusted one, and use it for parts. Restoring my AE86, all the way... Going JDM style http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/ae86/p/150463#150463 |

If you´re worried about the registration, buy this shitbox and swap the chassisnumers/ tags over to an AE86 in better condition, if done right, noone will ever know, and you got your 5seater licence.

Everyone is telling me to give this up, but I want it so badly... Swapping the chassis# plate is total illxgal and it risks ruining two cars registration, I dare not to do this... |

I have no clue what a 5 seater license is but the AE86 was always only intended to have 4 people max... anyway it's hard to let things go but considering what you said so far you are better off without it...
If I was in your position, use your time to save money and then find something better to start on. OR learn the skills to fix it porperly but we are talking many years for that so it doesn't make sense to buy this one then either. If you have an abudance of proper storage space , which is free and the cash to buy this and not be worried that it wont move or make any remarkable progress being fixed for 5 years - then and only then by all means go for it. Shell looks very bad, when you strip it back it will be worse. I hate to see 86s die but that shell is a money pit.

if it was in the US I'd say that's the perfect donor car for SR5 to GTS conversion.

Not the worst EVER, (my daily driver station-wagon ta40 will be about as bad as this in one year) but you will have to completely dismantle it, and will take a welder some time to get back to good-shell.
Buy for parts or leave it be for someone who wants to repair it. A shame, nice interior and motor seems to be in good nick! 1x AE86 84` Zenki Coupè Levin 4A-GE 20v 1x AE86 83' Zenki Coupe Levin 4A-GE 16v 1x TA60 82' Sedan 2T 8V 1x TA40 78` MK1 Zenk/Pre-Facelift Wagon 4A-GE 16v |
