Project SE82 (3S-GE powered AE82)
I have been wanting to do this (building a racecar out of an old corolla) for many years, but I always thouth it was for "those other guys". About a year ago I got to thinking.. Why couldn't I do this as well as anybody else? I only have one life, so why not live it now, right?
So... I'm not going to bore you with all the stories about the project that you are not interested in and I have forgotten half of. Instead I'll go right to the essentials. Origin: 1985 Toyota corolla 1.6 DX 4A-C powered front-wheel-drive granny transporter Engine: 2nd Generation 3SGE from a 1991 Celica GTi Suspension: Not really sure yet what the combination of corolla/celica parts I will use but the Celica parts will (probably) be from the generation previous to the engine donor because of the difference in availability (and price ). Although I am a bit curious about one of those DIY Coilover kits available on EBAY. Brakes: I will most certainly use a complete stock ST162 brake system. No, we actually had a discussion about this. It would be possible to start a FWD to drift, but not sustain the drift. But that is a too long discussion to start over here... Show us the pics!!!! Allrightythen I guess you want to see some pics. This is the poor excuse for an engine that was there before: The front and rear tranny mounts bolts almost right up to the S-53 tranny.. The front one needed to be moved a little bit to the right for the engine to point straight. The left and right mount couldn't be used at all since they weren't only in the wrong places. They were also too narrow. So I cut them off, along with the battery plate. The battery will be moved to the trunk anyway. Testfitted the new engine: The right engine mount. As you can see it wouldn't have fit at all. Really dirty tranny.. This mount needed to be moved a little bit forwards. Begun working on the left tranny mount. Cutting that 4mm steel plate with a 3mm cutting disc on the angle grinder is hard work: Also removed the tank because it needs to be converted to EFI.. As you all can see, there is still A LOT to be done.. Not as fun to work on it now as it was in the summer though.. Had about 7 degrees C in the garage today.. So what do you think?
