Registration & Other Legal Stuff
your problems sound familiar. in austria you are only allowed to register cars from other countries if they are not older than 1996. if they are older than that you have to do a "single-registration". this means you have to do all sorts of testing which costs a lot! maybe its similar in the new eu-countries?
the nice part of this is you get this registration for only this particular car. if your friend wants to register exactly the same model he has to do all the testings again ... very nice Sad

maybe you can solve the euro2 problem by mounting a catalytic converter. if thats the only problem for registering it might be enough. ... do not have any bether idea, sorry....

if you import one try one from america the laws of MOT and shit are higher there than in Holland so you have an advantage that it will pass MOT faster and of course registration

I know it sounds stupid, but why not do an engine swap in a corolla. The 4afe engine has an cleaner engine and is cheap.
But I don't know much about the euro2 norm.

Succes with it...

yes it is the same thing in czecho-slovakia, the costs for single registration are astronomical.and it is no other way for cars older than 96Sad

To buy papers from another car and change the chassis code is thing they do in Cro also.. but you must use very similar [AE85] or exactly the same car.. You can't use Corolla DX or something like that.. it can pass with the engine and the looks but RWD and FWD difference is very troublesome...

And to import a car as oldtimer it must be on Oldtimer registered list.. and I don't think that AE86 is on that list...

And to import and pay awsome money for testing or homologation [called here] is a risky job because who knows will it pass..

It's pretty f**** up job to import and register old car...

Hmmm, but the topic wasn't about apolan getting himself a hachi, but making it euro2 complient. Undecided
Perhaps a seperate thread about getting legalstuff done, or make this one a sticky? Dumb question
